50/50 is a true story about Adam, a writer for public radio who gets rare form of cancer at the age of 24 and gets 50-50 odds in his favor. His friend, Kyle tries to struggle with the news and remarks, “If you were a casino game, you would have the best odds”. Weaving in scenes of poignant shock and sadness, the movie captures moments of deep friendship between Adam and Kyle, Adam’s attachment with his worrywart, agonizing mother whom he also seeks to stay away from, his love for his father who has Alzheimer’s, and his deepening attachment with his therapist. And all this life unfolds amidst humor, as Adam tries to meet what life dishes out with a ton of courage, rare bouts of anger, lot of acceptance, and tremendous support from those who love him. As his therapist remarks, “You can’t change your situation. The only think that you can change is how you choose to deal with it.”
I recommend watching the movie.
